Manufacturing in China is starting to return to normal
Manufacturing activities in China are beginning to return to normal. There is 80% capacity utilisation across the entire supply chain in March. Supply is now
almost back to normal. But now the March and April demand is starting to be affected by the coronavirus.
The Chinese authorities have postponed the deadline for bidding to the end of June. They are also considering a one-quarter extension of the deadlines for connecting to the network. For the time being, it is envisaged that Chinese demand will fall below 40 GW in 2020.
Thus, demand will not resume before the second quarter. For the moment, there is little change in the prices of wafers and cells. The sale of panels will depend on demand in the United States and Europe. So far, there is no marked change in the volume of foreign orders for panels. However, Europe and other regions where the virus is widespread are likely to see their projects postponed.
At present, it is impossible to predict the extent of demand. It will pick up again when the epidemic can be contained.
