Toledo Solar starts production of thin layers with cadmium telluride (CdTe)

The American company Toledo Solar is starting up the production of thin layers with cadmium telluride (CdTe), which is First Solar's speciality.

It targets the residential and professional sectors neglected by its elder brother.

The plant is located in Ohio in the former Willard & Kelsey plant, which also specialized in CdTe. It has a capacity of 100 MW and produces panels with an efficiency of 16.5% with a size of 60 x 120 cm, i.e. 115 W per panel. This makes it a competitor to First Solar's Series 4, which is being discontinued in favour of the larger Series 6, which is intended for large power plants.
