Highlights of the week to 10 April

The main pointis the magnitude of the changes that are taking place before our eyes.

The more time passes, the more clearly we see that the decade 2020 will be very different from the decade before it. Not just because of the emergence of photovoltaics or renewables, but because of the disruptions that have been introduced over the last six months. Among the major factors of change is the sustained rise in the price of electricity and gas, which will have unpredictable repercussions on the perception of the population, on economic competitiveness and on the respective wealth of the different regional blocs.

To reverse the trend, sellers of gas, electricity, or oil would have to agree to lower their prices, but the pandemic has shown that commodities are becoming scarce and expensive. Since there has been a generalisation of price increases, it is therefore a fundamental movement. We have to adapt, but we have to be able to change our behaviour to do so

A look at the consequences of energy prices

1st incidental point1st ancillary point: The consequences of the price of energy:

The geostrategic analysis of energy was well presented by Mr. Indra Overland: The war in Ukraine is a factor in the major energy transformation

A more economic study: The energy crisis in Europe and the demand for renewable energy

According to DNV, the energy situation cannot change quickly, but it must be recognised: DNV has little faith in energy change in Europe by 2030

Finally an analysis (Ember's) that is not catastrophic, or doomsday: According to Ember, a 25% growth in solar installations is sufficient to stay within 1.5°Celsius

2nd ancillary point: There is a lot to be said about the best approach to impose oneself economically on a market. The Europeans have chosen: For the renaissance of the industry, Europe is banking on new technologies

3rd point (subsidiary) :

Array Technologies in 2021: a difficult exercise
