SunPower sues SolarCity for patent infringement

SunPower is suing SolarCity for infringement of patents relating to its cell-to-cell contact technology.
SolarCity's two closest rivals in the residential roofing market, SunPower and SolarWorld, are using different processes to rival or restrict the newcomer's competitiveness in the production of cells and panels at its 1 GW plant in Buffalo, New York. Potentially, compared to these two competitors, SolarCity has a cheaper and more cost-effective technology for manufacturing solar cells and a higher production capacity that will provide it with economies of scale. Hence the reaction of competitors.
PV Tech of 27 September 2016.
Editor's note Last March, SolarWorld asked the courts to declare the cells manufactured by Silevo, the SolarCity subsidiary, as Chinese and therefore subject to US customs duties.
