A panel combining silicon and CdTe thin films?

SunPower and First Solar are studying the technical possibility of combining the two technologies: silicon cells covered with CdTe thin films. The product could be ready within two years.

SunPower is looking to expand its offering and strengthen its customer service. It wants to move from offering a single product to a "complete ecosystem of energy products", which will offer smart home solutions, storage systems and residential electric vehicle chargers, in addition to solar power.

It intends to increase its R&D efforts and raise its investment capacity to over a billion dollars by 2025.

SunPower has announced an expansion of its residential battery storage system, SunVault Storage, into 26 kWh and 52 kWh configurations, enabling the system to provide customers with backup power for every appliance in their home in the event of a power outage. That's because 40% of homeowners worry about outages every month. For customers in regions prone to natural disasters, or Californian customers living in areas prone to frequent blackouts, these worries often become a reality, for a few hours or even a few days. All SunVault energy storage systems will come with a 10-year warranty, including 70% usable energy retention.
