Rising panel prices affect Korean installers
Rising panel prices could affect PV projects of less than one MW submitted to the Korean Energy Agency's tender
The current disruption of the global supply chain
in the PV industry is delaying or making unviable many solar projects in all markets. Yet Korea has a strong domestic solar panel industry that has recently stepped up its efforts to strengthen its production capacity.
"If a developer participates in the solar tender market organised by the Korea Energy Agency, the installation must be completed within six months."If the panel price increases during this period, losses will occur due to the confirmed bid price." In the last tender, 2 GW of PV was awarded at an average final price of KRW 136.128 per kWh ($0.115). Currently, about 1 to 1.2 GW of solar power in Korea is supplied each quarter, and 80% of these projects are small and medium-sized, with less than 1 MW of generating capacity, so these projects are expected to be the most affected."
