Almost all US power plants are equipped with trackers

In the United States, the installed capacity of solar power plants with a minimum size of 5 MW with or without storage stood at 61.7 gigawatts (GW) at the end of 2022.

10.4 GW were installed in 2022, which is significantly less than the 12.5 GW commissioned in 2021, when the previous record was set, says Berkeley Lab.

94% of power plants installed in 2022 use single-axis tracking systems. The cost of installation was quite high, reaching $1.07 per watt in direct current ($1.32/W in alternating current). These plants provided an average discounted cost of electricity (LCOE) of 3.9 US cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The average power purchase agreement (PPA) price, based on the small sample of contracts signed in 2022, was 2.5 cents/kWh.
